wire pressing

Wire pressing:

SFAM is a leader in metal wire forming. Our company deals with all pressed metal wire parts on straight, 2D or 3D wires from the conception to the production.

We are wired to your ideas!

Pressing or die-forging is a metal working process that flattens or deforms the metal section at a precise point in order to give it a specific shape. (ex: miter cut, notches, pressing-punching or squashed “ears”).
Indeed, pressing the end of an axle can allow a travel stop, improve the part’s engagement thanks to a miter or can connect the part by wire punching.
This deformation gives a particularly high tensile strength compared to a machined part.
Equipped with a fleet of automatic presses, SFAM can make from wire bending many secondary operations on straight, 2D or 3D wires.
Our know-how and high technology machinery makes it possible to bend metal wire in different diameters ranging from Ø 0.2mm to 18 mm.
SFAM manufactures to your requirements convex, bended, folded, profiled wire.

Field applications:

Among the many features of these parts, here are some examples of the different types of pressed metal wire parts we can provide:

  • Car headrests structures
  • Wire anchoring
  • Wire miter cuts
  • Cold forming axles
  • Serial number markings
  • Rod pressed ends
  • Pressed hooks
  • Crushed punched rails
  • Anchoring axles
  • Custom made pressed wires

 Wire section and materials used:

We can use round, half-round, square, flat metal wire sections for diameters going from Ø 0.2 to 18 mm.

Materials used include: C9D mild steel – S235 steel – galvanized mild steel – stainless steel (430 stainless steel, 304 stainless steel, 302 stainless steel, 316 food grade stainless steel) – steel spring –
galvanized steel spring – aluminium – stainless steel spring – copper – brass – aluminium/zinc – Crapal – Benzinal – piano wire …
Other possibilities on demand…

Finishing and painting of metal parts:

We can ensure the finishing and painting of metal parts by our integrated epoxy and rilsan paint line : white zinc plating or zinc flake coating, powder coating, hot-dip galvanizing, chrome, electrolytic polishing, passivation…

Conception et réalisation d’outillage et gabarits de contrôle.
Contrôle unitaire de la qualité de l’écrasement ou du marquage.

Pressing processes:

Pressing or die-forging is a pressing process that forms the wire by a matrix and forms a head or an extruded profile by the action of tooling.
The pressing operation of metal wire by die-forging is one of the most used ones in the manufacturing of mechanical parts.
Nevertheless, major advances in the machines conception have permitted to obtain the pressing of a part directly and this without any manual working.

Tip: Pressing or die-forging is more economical because it allows to mark a part in one operation. The “ears” formed on a wire by pressing allow a travel stop instead of welding a washer.
